Hello new Maryland dance friends.To be near family, I have recently moved to this beautiful area. For the last twenty years I oversaw 'American Ballet School' in North Carolina. I look forward to working with the talented dancers of the the Gaithersburg/Rockville Community.
Let me tell you a little about 'American Ballet School'. My name is Karen Vollrath and the students call me Ms. V. I'm a graduate of Harvard and Wheelock University. In my younger days I danced with the Boston Repertory Ballet, the Jacob's Pillow Dancers, and the Center Ballet Theater in Connecticut. I've been a dance teacher and 'regular' school teacher for many years.
But 'American Ballet School' is not really about me, it's about the students. They are the treasure. Each student comes with his/her own unique hopes, dreams, excitement or fears. At 'ABS' we do our best to access the specialness of each child, because not every child learns the same way. It is our job to work with each student in the way that is best for him/her.
Through the study of the art form called dance, the student gains so much: persistence, complex problem solving skills, respect of self and fellow students, confidence from succeeding. We love being a part of that process.
